Out of It
Last night, I was watching the Mets game. It was a great game, low score, fast pace. Cory Sullivan hit a solo homer in the second inning and that was the only run in the game until the seventh, when the Cubs tied it. In the eighth Kevin Gregg came in and then was replaced by Angel Guzman. Together they allowed the Mets to score 5 runs to make it 6-1. It was a great inning, the Mets were putting together hit after hit after hit after hit. Very exciting to watch, terriffic rally. The only thing was, I wasn't very excited.
I mean, I was glad that the Mets were winning and it was fun to watch, but the whole time I was thinking, "So what, this doesn't mean anything. I would love this if we were in a pennant race but this doesn't mean anything."
Often I have wondered what it is like to be a fan of the Royals, or the Nationals, or the Pirates, or the Padres. I think to myself, "I wonder how they get through the season, when they know the games don't count for anything."
So I ask you: if you are a fan of a losing ballclub, how do you get through the season?

I may not be a fan of a losing team this season, but I'm a fan of a team that has a knack for breaking your heart. And I also follow the Marlins. First of all, you believe. Secondly, you look at the bright stars of the team, and you enjoy watching a good game of baseball.

We all have gone through what you are going through. Last season the Dodgers were barely playing .500 and stil won the westerrn division of the NL. Go figure.
I remember the season before I went to the last game of the season and knew it was over. It was hard to believe. There is always next year is what they always say. Then you start fron scratch. You are welcome to join us Dodger fans temporarily while you still root root root for your team until the final game. You are always welcome. I used to follow the Mets religiously when Shawn Green was a Met.

The Mets aren't out of it just yet but this means that they need to win almost every game from here, and that's doable. I still believe the Mets are in this race.

You have to understand, I've lived long enough to remember the Senators in the '60s. So I know about sucky baseball in D.C., even THEN.
Now to answer the question: personally, I get through this by hoping the Nats don't lose 100 games (fat chance of THAT happening...lol). Of course, today Ryan Zimmerman launched a 2-run walk-off homer to beat the Marlins...so there's hope YET!!!

I've been a Red Sox fan for over 40 years - you believe, you know there is always next year and you remember - it is just a game. In the grand scheme of things who wins and loses the game just don't matter - life goes on. It really is that simple. Don't make the wins and loses more important then they are. Yes, we all want our teams to win - but if they don't? It is okay. You just have to remember that.
